News Splash – March 2022

Your club needs you

We need to expand our coaching capacity to ensure we can always deliver top quality sessions. We want to recruit new coaches and teachers and wonder if this is something that you would be interested in? Do you have any friends or close contacts who would be able to join us?

The club’s active membership numbers have grown recently, and we are being well represented in swimming competitions. In response, we are looking to deliver several exciting projects. Short term we would like to run swimming workshops and medium to longer-term we are exploring the possibility of providing a fourth weekly swimming session. We also have a long overdue Swim Camp to prepare for.

We have an immediate need for coaches or teachers to be available on standby to cover when our regular coaches are unavailable. For this role, we need people with up-to-date qualifications (preferably, at least level 2) who can deliver sets covering all the main strokes.

As well as looking for qualified coaches/teachers the club would like to offer the opportunity to one or two club members to train as swimming coaches or teachers. The club would also provide opportunities for anyone with existing level 1 qualifications to progress to level 2.

If you are interested in the opportunity to become a swimming coach or teacher, then please do get in touch with our coaches (Edwin and Alex) or any members of the committee. The club will provide the support needed to gain the necessary qualifications.

Booking and paying for your swim sessions

Please don't forget that you need to book your Club swim sessions to guarantee that you'll be able to swim. The booking web address has changed – it is now:

https://northernwave.org/book-your-swim

Please remember, if you have booked a swim and for any reason, you aren’t able to attend, you must cancel your booking using the link in the booking confirmation email. If you don't have the email then please text/WhatsApp or email Donald (membership@northernwave.org). Doing this ensures that swim sessions are open to as many as possible.

If you don't pay for your swims by standing order you can pay by bank transfer or by card/contactless 'on the door' of each session.

Priority booking for Tuesday SO payers

As our Tuesday sessions have become so popular some club members who pay for their swims by standing order have expressed a worry that the sessions are filling up before they can book.

To alleviate this problem we will pre-book standing order payers who have attended at least one session in the previous three months into each Tuesday session before the sessions become available on the booking page.

This priority booking will depend on you cancelling bookings (from the link in the booking confirmation email) for sessions you will not attend. If you fail to cancel three priority-booked sessions you will lose this privilege.

Competitions

Are you interested in competing at any of the following events? Let Edwin know if you're thinking of attending and whether you'd like to compete in any relays.

Club kit

Some of you - particularly our newer members - may not be aware that our club kit is available to purchase year-round from our supplier. The full range of products can be viewed on the Waterpoloshop website.

The kit is made to order and the supplier charges a small production fee if fewer than 5 items are ordered. To avoid this charge the club runs a couple of bulk orders each year, but if you can’t wait for your jazzy new merch then feel free to place an order of your own (or with friends)!

In relation to sizing, please ensure that you read the supplier's size guide and perhaps even speak to other members that have the items that you’ve got your eye on. The sizing is very different to regular swimwear. Most people need to size up at least one or two sizes. The items are non-returnable due to being custom made.
